Milo's Story
I adopted Milo on Valentine’s Day 2008. He came to me from a co-worker’s family who hadn’t the time for him, and whose dog seemed to think that Milo would make a very delicious dessert!
At the time I was training for a new job that I had taken on, so Milo got to live with me in a tiny apartment with 2 other roommates and not much space! I had always grown up in a house full of animals. In fact, I grew up surrounded by 5 cats, 3 dogs, and a slew of farm animals to go along! With that said, I thought I knew at least the basics to caring for the small weary kitten that had just come into my life, little did I know that there was still so much to learn.
Unfortunately the job was not working out for me, so by the end of February I found myself packing up my things along with Milo and moving out to stay with my boyfriend and his parents at “the zoo”. Now we don’t call it the zoo because my boyfriend and his parents are crazy! We call it that simply because of the animals living there. After a relatively short introductory period, the animals were up to their antics. Taz and Milo will tackle each other and sometimes it will get to the point where you think that they might not be playing, until one of them rolls over on their belly while the other one proceeds to happily clean the ears of his playmate! To my surprise, and knowing Milo’s background with dogs, Toby and Milo have become inseparable! They enjoy chasing each other around the house, and it seems to have boosted Milo’s self esteem when he’s able to chase Toby away! With a proud strut, he walks atop the back of the couch in victory when the dog runs the other way! All fun in games though, before you know it the animals at the zoo are resting side by side watching TV along with their pets (us humans of course!)
I was lucky enough in that Milo came to me with no health problems! After a visit to the Vet, I learned a little more into how I need to be feeding Milo. According to the Vet, he needed a balanced diet between dry and wet food. So with that I went to the store and picked out what seemed to me to be a good brand of pet food for my new addition. Now I love my pet for sure, but I always had to laugh at my boyfriend’s mom for going as far as purchasing food from a distributor in ARIZONA and having it shipped to her house! I often asked her why she did this when she could buy food at any pet store, and she started telling me of the awful things that go into pet food. Out of disbelief I started to do a little
more research and what I found definitely changed the way I look at a can of cat food! I, however, was not in any sort of position to be paying to ship food from Arizona to me! I visited a few of the local holistic pet food stores, which are far and few in between, and again I was faced with outrageous prices that I just could not afford to feed my cat. I knew that if I started him on one of these crazy diets, it wouldn’t be long before he was eating a gourmet feast while I had Ramen Noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
One morning, I sat down to enjoy the Ellen Show, a favorite of Taz, Toby and Milo’s! As we watched, she advertised Halo Pet Foods. I put the name in the back of my head. When I was out shopping at Petco, I remembered the name and took a look at one of the cans. After all the research I had done and the books I had read, I felt confident that I could read the ingredients in a can of pet food and know what I should steer clear of! Well, to my surprise all of the ingredients were ingredients that I myself would eat! There were no funny words that I didn’t know what they meant, no gums, no meat meals, no corn meals, nothing like that! Since the ingredients seemed good, and it was pretty affordable I figured I’d buy a can or two, being that I was still skeptical, and see how Milo enjoyed it. As soon as I opened the can, I started to get hungry! It smelled as if I had just cooked a pot pie. Fairly impressed, I gave Milo a taste! He ate that food faster than he’s ever eaten anything! He usually has a habit of not finishing his food, but since I started to feed him Halo, he finishes every bite at every meal.
I am lucky enough to have found a product such as Halo early on in Milo’s life. I hope that feeding him this food, along with providing him lots of TLC, he will live a happy and healthy life!
